Sel Saint Laurent presented the exhibition ESTUAIRE – The Memory of Salt from May 20 to 22, 2025, at C2 Montréal.
Through visual works, objects, and fragments of installations inspired by the sea salt flakes of Sel Saint Laurent, ESTUARY – The Memory of Salt is a sensory and purposeful exhibition — a tribute to the St. Lawrence River, a place of wonder deeply entwined with our identity.
ESTUARY — The Memory of Salt
Manuel Bujold, Nancy Guignard
Artists and Salt Makers
The word “salary” comes from the Latin salarium, an allowance given to Roman soldiers, originally intended for the purchase of salt — a precious commodity born from the evaporation of seas and carefully harvested. Salt has shaped empires, sparked revolts, and endured through centuries like a precious dust of the Earth.
It moves silently through history, charged with meaning, power, and memory.
Through observation, harvesting, and travels across salt landscapes to learn from traditional artisans, salt has led us to a profound question: what truly determines the value of a thing — its rarity, its price, its utility, or the story it holds and the beauty we uncover when we dare to see it differently?
Salt has not lost its nobility — we have simply ceased to recognize it.
Each sale supports Sel Saint Laurent — a project grounded in meaning, territory, and looking toward the future. Presented by Mécénat Collectif — The Art of Financing Tomorrow’s Legacies

Artists and entrepreneurs, we transform the river's salt into a driving force for sustainable and cultural projects.
Sel Saint Laurent was born from an intimate encounter with the river — and the belief that even a single grain of salt can carry the power to transform.
This salt — cold-extracted and harvested by hand — holds more than taste: it crystallizes our commitment to protecting biodiversity, and envisions a new economic model, grounded in culture and oriented toward the future.
We are Manuel Bujold and Nancy Guignard, two artists united by the desire to live in harmony with our values.
This is our way of inhabiting the land: by creating, transforming, and innovating.
